THE DESIGN PROCESS

Dream

It is not uncommon to have an idea but not know where to start. You may think about it often, it can be overwhelming. Difficulty translating needs and wants to an actual plan is not an easy task. That is where I come in. Listening to all your dreams and making it a reality. This is where it begins, a designer trained in making complicated decisions based on color, texture, form, and function. Based on environmental factors, site specific nuances and contextual cues I can sculpt your space into a living piece of art and architecture.

Step 1: Involves me spending time with you and your property to fully understand and conceptualize the concept.

Design

All beautiful, functional outdoor spaces must first start with a design. Beginning with your inspiration I am able to translate these ideas into reality. Using cues from our conversations and contextual details from the immediate environment, I take all the bits and pieces, combining them to create the landscape of your dreams. This 2D design will conceptualize all the site element from hardscape to plants and every detail in-between. The full color design will help you to visualize the end product and function as a tool for construction. This is the most vital part of the process, ensuring every detail is properly considered and conceptualized before being built. The end result is a purpose-built landscape that saves you time and money during the construction phase.

Step 2: The creation of a basic concept(s) that loosely defines the spaces and their functions. Feedback and revisions lay the groundwork for the final design.

Step 3: We dive deeper into the plants, materials and features of the project creating the finishes and defining the space that ties everything together.

Step 4: We review the final design. With revisions to further refine and your approval, you take ownership of the design, sending to the contractor for estimate.

Build

My conceptual design is what sets us up for success. It dictates what gets built. Construction is when the 2D environment comes to life. Working from the ground up the space begins to take form. While I wont be the one building your design we find the right contractor that will. Ideally we will start the design process with a contractor on board for a smooth on-budget project. Collaboration is important in my process. I work closely with you and your chosen contractor to ensure the space comes to life just as we had imagined. The designer, client, contractor relationship is key to the most successful build possible.

Step 5: We walk through the design with the contractor and get a project estimate. Making any modifications necessary for budget the final design is ready to be built.

Step 6: Working with you and the contractor to ensure the design is built as intended.

Grow

It all begins with an idea. Design and construction are only the first half. The magic doesn’t begin until it’s all complete. The sound of birds in the morning over a cup of coffee, friendly voices emanating from a warm moonlit fire, summer nights sharing food around a dinner table. The space sees regular foot traffic, flowering plants are visited by wildlife, friendships and family grow alongside the outdoor space of your dreams. I will be there along the way to make sure your landscape matures as it was envisioned because it too is a living thing and with proper care will only get better with age.

Step 7: Post project consultations available for plant maintenance and growth management.
